San Miguel is accessible through three major airports with many direct flights from most cities.

Queretaro (QRO)

Queretaro (QRO) is the closest airport and is an hour from San Miguel.

LEON (BJX)

Guanajato International (BJX) is an hour and a half from San Miguel.

MEXICO CITY (MEX)

Mexico City Intl (MEX) is a 3 hour and 50 min ride from San Miguel de Allende.

Options from airport

Reserve Driver

We recommend reserving a car through Viajes San Miguel. Can reserve online with flight information.

TAKE CAB

From Queretaro or Leon it is easy to grab a cab directly outside the airport for approx $30USD.

RENT CAR

Generally, we do not recommend renting a car unless planning a longer trip to drive to other places as there is limited parking in San Miguel.

There are many great options for hotels and houses. The town is very walkable and most places are nearby. We recommend staying at or near the Rosewood by most of the wedding festivities.

PASSPORT

Make sure your passport is valid. Passports should have at least six months of validity when traveling internationally

COMFORTABLE SHOES

The streets are cobblestone so please bring comfortable shoes that won’t hold you back (especially for the callejoneada)

WARM/LAYERING CLOTHES

San Miguel is located in the mountains (not the beach) and it gets cooler at night. Late august the temperature fluctuates from the mid 80s in the day to the mid 50s at night.

Altitude

San Miguel is almost 7,000 ft in elevation, so you might tire quickly during your first day if you aren't accustomed to high altitudes. Be sure to stay well hydrated.

CONTACT YOUR CELL PHONE PROVIDER

While restaurants/hotels provide WIFI, we suggest setting up an affordable international plan to avoid roaming fees.

SAFETY

San Miguel de Allende was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 and is a true tourist destination. Locals, including the 20% of ex-pat Americans who live there permanently, are very friendly and welcoming to tourists. San Miguel is a very safe place; however, we would ask that you use common sense as when you are traveling anywhere, whether in the US or internationally.

ZIKA

There is no Zika virus in San Miguel de Allende or Mexico City. The virus is carried by a strain of mosquito (Aedes species) that is not found in high altitude areas – including the majority of Central Mexico.

TAXIS & TRANSPORT

Uber is easily accessible anywhere in San Miguel. The charge for a taxi that you pick-up on the street is 40 pesos during the day and 50 pesos late evening. Suburbans and cars with English speaking drivers who can provide airport service or arrange day trips and tours of nearby sites and towns call Juan Vazquez Santana 044 415 153 3150.

CAR RENTAL

We do not recommend renting a car. San Miguel is a relatively small dense town with narrow, cobblestone streets. The city is extremely walkable but please pack comfortable shoes!! Also, cabs are everywhere and very cheap!

Water

Avoid tap water unless it has been filtered, chemically disinfected, or boiled. You can check with your hotel or house to ensure that your tap water is filtered. Ice and water served at most restaurants are typically purified but when it doubt, order bottled water! Bottled water is widely available and short term visitors are advised to use it to brush their teeth, too.

VOLTAGE

Voltage is 100v, just like the US. If your appliance has three prong make sure you bring a 2-prong adapter as not all outlets will be three prong.
